About Katalyst Kombatives

Founded in Virginia Beach. Built on live resistance.

    Coach David Bergman

    Head Instructor

David (a.k.a. Coach) is a lifelong martial artist who loves coaching even more than training. For him, coaching isn't just about class plans — it's about building a vibrant, supportive community where training partners push each other and have a blast doing it. There's a kind of organized chaos in his classes, often fueled by his long-time students who help set the tone. When the energy is high, you'll often hear him say: "When you realize this is your circus, and these are your monkeys." In addition to his coaching, David is a Stop the Bleed instructor, ShivWorks alumni, and a USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association) pistol competitor. Outside of the gym, he's a passionate hunter, outdoorsman, and a proud father.

    Coach Asia Rogina

    Instructor

Asia (a.k.a. "The Battle Hamster") is a Level 2 Instructor with Krav Maga Israel and an active-duty military member with nearly two decades of service. She brings that same intensity and discipline to her coaching. A passionate instructor with a dry sense of humor, she's often heard encouraging students with her trademark phrase: "Do better" — usually delivered just as you're gasping for air and questioning your life choices. Outside of Krav, Asia is a dedicated Jiu-Jitsu competitor, a ShivWorks assistant instructor, an EMS volunteer, and has a couple of amateur boxing matches under her belt. She is a force multiplier on and off the mat.

    • Taekwondo Black Belt / Competitor

    Coach Victoria Wiggin

    Instructor

Victoria is a lifelong martial artist and ICU nurse, combining clinical precision with combat skill. She's a Level 2 certified instructor with Krav Maga Israel, a regular on the competition mats, and likely has restrained more people — on the mats and in the hospital — than the rest of the staff combined. Known for her dry wit and sharp mind, she's especially passionate about helping women take their safety into their own hands, volunteering at a battered women's shelter to teach practical, no-nonsense self-defense.

We Don't Sell Confidence. We Build Competence.

    Vulnerability
    Exposure
    Competence
    Confidence

Most self-defense programs promise confidence in 30 days. We don't. We expose you to realistic problems under controlled pressure. Over time, that builds measurable competence. And competence — proven under stress — produces real, durable confidence. False confidence can get you hurt. We don't do that.
